Ok, for those of you who know me, I work in the manufacturing field and often pick on the Architectural folks. For those of you that are architecturally inclined check these out...

Project Dragonfly - http://labs.autodesk.com/technologies/dragonfly/

"Project Dragonfly is ideal for anyone who’s ever wanted an easy, intuitive floor planning tool to dream, organize, and envision changes in their living space."

Dragonfly is an on-line tool, but you can sign up so that once done with your design you can save it as a DWG.

Another cool looking tool that is extremly new - so new I haven't even played with it is Project Newport. http://labs.autodesk.com/technologies/newport/

This looks like a really cool conceptual/rendering tool. They were still working on it when I posted this, but I will keep an eye on it and update the blog when it is out.

Of course there are bunch of other tools you should check out, these are just a few.

Inventor Fusion - http://labs.autodesk.com/utilities/fusion/

Inventor Fusion is a stripped down version of Inventor that offers press pull capabilities. Check out some of the videos on Fusion's main page.

Backward compatibility - Inventor

For those of you that saw Steve's post regarding saving AutoCAD 2010 files back 2007; let's look at this same issue for Inventor. (Yes, Steve I am a copycat) For those of you taking CD250 (Engineering Graphics II) please note that Inventor is not able to open newer files than the version you are working in AND is not able to save back to a previous version. What does this mean to you? Right now at school we are using Inventor 2008, from the Autodesk Student Portal you can download Inventor 2008, 2009, and 2010. If you download and install 2009 or 2010 at home, create work, and bring it to school it will not work. So, if you are in CD250, you will want to install Inventor 2008 for the meantime.

Autodesk downloads and ITT

Just a reminder for those of you that have downloaded AutoCAD version 10 on you home PC's...

On your home systems, be sure to set the option for "save as" to Autocad version 2007, otherwise you will not be able to open the files in the school labs because the files are incompatable.

Welcome Back for the Summer!

Glad you are back for the first week of school for the summer! It really is a great time to be in school since you don't have to worry about the wintery weather and somehow things seem a bit more relaxed.

I am looking for CAD, Inventor, AutoCAD Architecture, Civil 3d tutors this summer! If you are up for the challenge and or resume builder let me know or I will hunt you down. This is a great experience to improve your own skills but also looks really great on a resume. You all get great references out of it!
